he Vendée is famous for its sandy beaches and bustling resorts, backed by forests, tranquil countryside and sleepy villages. An hour and a half south of Nantes, Camping La Plage at St Hilaire-de-Riez is located between the modern resort of St Jean-de-Monts and the charming fishing port of St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Across the road from the campsite entrance a path leads you through the dunes to the wide golden sands, typical of beaches in the Vendée region. La Plage is a friendly campsite with a relaxed and unmistakable French atmosphere. Our tent pitches are all together and our mobile homes pitches are divided into two groups. The first rate swimming complex has a small indoor pool and jacuzzi, an outdoor pool and a slide pool with excellent water chutes. There are lively bars and a choice of restaurants nearby. Bread, croissants and milk are for sale on site in high season and for general shopping there is a large supermarket a short walk away plus some excellent local markets. For an interesting day out cross over to the Ile de Noirmoutier, which has beautiful beaches, the Océanile water park and the Sealife aquarium. A little further away is the excellent Puy du Fou theme park for some Medieval style fun!
