If you are
looking for a mixture of sightseeing, activity and beach relaxation,
then the Charente Maritime could be your choice. The miles of golden
sandy beaches and cooling pine forests, the oyster beds of the
Marenne, the scenic islands of Ré and Oleron, the historic port of
La Rochelle and the brandy distilleries of Cognac make this a great
all-round holiday destination. Camping l’Orée du Bois is located in
the heart of a forest near a wide variety of beaches. To the west is
the Côte Sauvage, popular for body boarding, whereas to the south
you will find sheltered beaches near the resorts of La Palmyre, St
Palais and Royan. With 40 miles of good cycle paths winding through
the forest and along the coast, a bike is the obvious mode of
transport to explore this fascinating region. The campsite has an
excellent new pool complex with water slides and a lazy river and
for added excitement try the excellent tree-climbing course next
door. During high season the campsite organises a host of daily
events, including various sports as well as regular day and evening
entertainment.
